After the Nabaztag and Tux Droïd, here’s Chumby, a new interactive companion who’s even more advanced.
Chumby is a little Wi-Fi gadget with a touch-sensitive screen, a microphone and various widgets. Widgets are little applications with connect automatically to the Internet, update themselves and keep you in touch with the latest developments – the weather, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, the low-down on Chuck Norris and plenty of other useful or fun stuff besides…
Put him on your kitchen table or desk, and Chumby will dole out little snippets of information of your choosing whenever you like.
Here’s some of what you can do with Chumby: Watch and share video-clips, animated images and YouTube videos.
Keep up with the latest news, photos and messages from your friends on Facebook, Twitter and other media.
Receive information about the weather, the latest forecasts and satellite images from anywhere in the world. Get woken up when you want with music, podcasts or the news – the choice is yours. Chumby features a clock which uses changing figures inspired by photos from Flickr.
Chumby is also a photo frame: view your photos from Flickr, Picasa, Photobucket, Facebook, etc., and send them to all your Chumby friends. Don’t let any more bargains slip away from you: keep an eye on your eBay bids and perform local searches using the right widget.
Play blackjack or sudoku, and use the movement sensor in Chumball and loads of other games.

Chumby is based on an ARM processor and operates in Linux. Its interface was designed by Susan Kare, the creator of the icons and fonts on the first Mac. It’s bright, neat and attractive!
Switch on your Chumby, connect it to your WiFi network and choose your favourites from over 1200 widgets in more than 30 different categories – and new ones are being added every day. One special feature of Chumby is that its software is open source, which means you can create your favourite widgets yourself!
